[00:00:00] Foreign.
[00:00:10] Welcome back to another edition of the Weekday Podcast. We're so glad you're here today. Today I want to talk about the stranger on the shore. Here's what it says in John 21, verse 6. And he said to them, talking about Jesus, cast the net on the right hand side of the boat and you will find a catch. So they cast, and then they were not able to haul it in because of the great number of fish. So picture this for a second. You're a professional fisherman. You've been at it all night. Your arms are tired, your nets are empty, and the sun's starting to come up from the shoreline. Maybe 100 yards away or more, some stranger cups his hands and yells, hey, try the other side. What's your first reaction? Mine? It probably involved some sort of sarcastic eye roll. The. These disciples, they weren't hobbyists.
[00:00:53] They weren't out there for fun. They knew this lake. They had grown up on this lake. They knew the current, the depths, the spots where the fish gathered. And some voice from the beach is suggesting that they move their nets eight feet to the right. And yet they did it. John just says, so they cast. No long debate, no committee meeting, just one throw of the net, and suddenly they couldn't even pull it back in.
[00:01:18] 153 large fish, the net was straining at the seams. And what had been empty and exhausting all night became more than they could handle in one moment of obedience. Here's what I want you to sit with today. Following Jesus, it will sometimes ask you to do something that doesn't fully make sense from the outside.
[00:01:37] Maybe it's making a phone call to someone that you've been avoiding. Maybe it's saying yes to something before you have all the details. Maybe it's forgiving someone before they've even asked for it. Maybe it's taken a step that looks sideways to everyone watching. You don't always get the explanation first. Sometimes obedience comes before understanding. The disciples, they didn't know it was Jesus yet. They just responded to the voice. And that one decision, that one cast of the net, it changed everything.
[00:02:06] Is there something God has been nudging you towards that you've been talking yourself out of? What would happen if today you just cast the net? Because one obedient step, it literally can change everything. Have a great day. We'll see you back here soon.
