[00:00:07] Speaker A: Welcome to the weekday podcast of Sugar Hill Church where we desire to help you know God and discover your purpose, whether you're exercising, driving, meditating, or just hanging out while you tune in with us today. Thanks. We hope these next five minutes help you feel encouraged and inspired for your day. [00:00:22] Speaker B: Hi everybody, and thanks for joining me. I'm Pastor Chuck Allen from Sugar Hill Church and I want to thank you for joining me on this weekday podcast. Today I want to talk about kind of a broader subject, more so than usual, about the relevance of the Psalms. I am always amazed at how relevant the book of Psalms are. I mean, these psalms are, are there for when we struggle with difficulties. They've always been there. I mean, think about this. Has somebody offended you? Maybe slandered you? The psalmist knew about this injustice. The psalmist wrote in Psalm 41:7, all who hate me whisper together about me. They plan to harm me. I bet you felt that way somewhere in your life. I have. Have you shown kindness, someone who later maybe turned on you? Well, the psalmist felt that. He said in Psalm 109:5 they repay me evil for good and hatred for my love. I bet you've been there. Here's a question. Have you ever loved someone sacrificially only to have them totally reject you? Well, the psalmist knew what that felt like and grieved over that situation. In Psalm 41:9, even my friend in whom I trusted, one who ate my bread, has raised his heel against me. Maybe there's come a time when you're confused by the way evil people triumph in this world. And maybe that question confuses even the psalmist, because the psalmist wrote in Psalm 73, look at them, the wicked. They are always at ease, and they increase their wealth. Did I purify my heart and wash my hands and innocence for nothing? I mean, sometimes when you read a psalm, you pause and you breathe a sigh and you realize, I'm not alone. God's given me this word to recognize that there are more psalms of encouragement than there are psalms of grief. But yet to understand that grief comes in this life because we live in a sin filled human world. We're not alone. Other people have felt the same way that you're feeling whatever it is today. And and they took their feelings to their best friend, to the Lord. And it's such a blessing to know that God isn't offended by our honest questions or by our raw feelings. And it's pretty important to know that others have faced similar problems and found comfort and help in the Lord, just today go read Hebrews 12:1 2 like the Psalmist, here's what I can say and he said it best in Psalm 18:6 I called to the Lord in my distress I and I cried to my God for help from his temple he heard my voice, and my cry to him reached his ears. Oh listen friend, according to the combined Messages of Psalm 34, James 1 and 1 Peter 4, in what ways does God rescue us from our troubles? And the answer is in every way thanks so much for joining me on today's weekday podcast. [00:03:18] Speaker A: Thanks so much for joining us today for the weekday podcast.
