[00:00:07] Speaker A: Welcome to the weekday podcast of Sugar Hill Church where we desire to help you know God and discover your purpose, whether you're exercising, driving, meditating, or just hanging out while you tune in with us today. Thanks. We hope these next five minutes help you feel encouraged and inspired for your day. [00:00:22] Speaker B: Hi everybody and thanks so much for joining me on today's weekday podcast where I'd like to talk about overwhelming grace. David writes this prayer psalm. In the 65th chapter of the Psalm, beginning in verse 3, he says, when we were overwhelmed by sins, you forgave our transgressions. Now, again, this is a prayer that David is writing in reaction to a time in which he's thinking about his transgressions and how he has fallen short of God's ideal for him. He writes this song prayer remembering a time when he was overwhelmed by his shortcomings. So David knew he'd come up short. And I think there are times when we do too. We recognize and know and you kind of have that fear and dread of, oh man, I've messed up again. But David knew he crossed the line plenty of times, just like we do. But being overwhelmed by sins can feel like guilt and sometimes even shame. I know how that feels and I don't like it any more than you do. But instead of being overwhelmed by what is wrong in us, God can and will overwhelm our sin with his mercy and grace. Overwhelming sin is met with overflowing grace. What a gift. I mean, just an unbelievable gift. Letting guilt and shame overtake my soul doesn't do much good, right? I mean, God doesn't find pleasure in how it creates even more distance between us. Guilt and shame is a tool that Satan uses to convince us that God does not possess and does not share overwhelming grace. I am really grateful today that David talks about being forgiven, of where his shortcomings are, where his transgressions, where his sins are not just mistakes, failure, stumblings, or some other like unintended mess up. Transgressions usually involve some intentional knowing disobedience. I've been there where it's like the Lord's almost saying, chuck, don't go there, don't do this. And it's like, I'm going on anyway, like I just choose the flesh over the spirit. I know you've been there. Transgressions, again, they usually involve some knowing disobedience, crossing over that relational boundary that God's established to protect our relationship, our well being, our health, spiritual health in particular with him. And when I recognize that I'VE chosen poorly pretty often. What happens is it's a weightiness. It feels heavy on my soul. What incredibly good news it is to know that God wants to lift that burden by forgiving us. I can acknowledge what I've done and God can put it behind me. You can do that as well. You can acknowledge what you've done and allow God to put it behind you. God isn't nearly as interested in rehearsing our failures as we can be. God is all about grace and mercy. He is all about overwhelming our shortcomings with his grace. Here's a question for you. When have you recently felt overwhelmed by your shortcomings or your offenses in life? And how could you let God care for you by putting that behind you and overwhelming you instead with his mercy and with his grace Today, let that be your plan and your desire. God, would you overwhelm me with your forgiveness? Call out that shortcoming before him and let him infuse you with mercy and with grace. Thanks so much for joining me on today's weekday podcast.
