[00:00:22] Speaker B: Well, hey, friends, it's so great to have you on the Weekday Podcast today. If you've never been to our website, you can go to weekdaypodcast.com that's weekdaypodcast.com and there's hundreds and hundreds of archives. And so if you ever miss a day, if you're ever looking for a specific topic or maybe just, you know, technology fails and it just doesn't download on a certain day, go to weekdaypodcast.com It's a great place to get caught up and maybe share some encouragement with a friend as well. Today, I want to think about this idea of the truth shall set you free. We know that verse. We've heard that phrase, you shall know the truth, and the truth will set set you free. Well, this is so true in so many different areas. And oftentimes it's true in the area of temptation. Temptation is when we are tempted, for lack of a better word, to take a shortcut. Like there's. There's a quicker way in front of us, or there's something we want, but we don't want to pay the price. Well, Matthew, chapter four, Jesus is tempted over and over and over again. And essentially, the devil does a lot of things, but one of the things that the devil does is the devil tries to tempt him by saying, you can have all the glory, that, like, you can show yourself to be God and to be all powerful, but you don't have to wait for the cross to do it. In other words, the enemy was essentially offering Jesus or tempting Jesus with a shortcut. Now, there's a lot of different ways that you and I could fight temptation. We could try to flee from it. We could try to reason with it. But for Jesus, Jesus applied truth to the lie. Every temptation at its core, as we've said before on the podcast, has a lie attached to it. And the way that Jesus attacked it was by quoting Scripture. He quotes Scripture. And So Matthew chapter 4, verse 4, Jesus says, It is written, man shall not live by bread alone. And then later, Jesus says in verse seven, on the other hand, it is written, you shall not put the Lord your God to the test. In verse 10 of Matthew 4, Jesus says, Go away from me, for it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and serve him only. I want you to catch today that the priority in Jesus life was the Word of God.
Jesus could have said anything in response to temptation and it would have been the Word of God, but instead he quoted from the Old Testament. There essentially was a time in Jesus life when he purposely planted the Word of God deep in his mind so that it would be there to dry out when he needed it. In other words, the Word of God was not just some add on to his day. It wasn't just devotional material. It literally became the bread of life to him. He heard his Father in the pages of scripture. He had left everything to come to this earth. And the intimacy he had was left behind in heaven. And it was found reconnected as he fed on the Word of God. And so I want to encourage you that the time that you take each day to listen to this podcast, to get some scripture or to read scripture physically in a physical copy of the Bible or through an app, those are investments every single day. You don't know what battle you're going to face each and every day. And so the time to prepare to win is before the temptation comes your way. Don't wait until temptation comes. Don't try to wait then. And then say, well, I'm going to try to find it. Instead, plant scripture in your life every single day. Here's the question today. If Jesus needed scripture, how much more do we? If Jesus needed scripture, how much more do we? I need more of God's word in my life. You shall know the truth by reading scripture. You'll know the truth and the truth will set you free. Have a great day. We love you guys. See you back here soon.
