[00:00:13] Speaker B: Well, hey, friends, welcome back to another edition of the weekday podcast. So grateful you're here today. Today we're talking about something really important. We're talking about checking your vitals. This idea of not just checking our notifications, but checking our soul.
And here's the truth. We check a lot of things every single day. Our phones, they're constantly beeping. We check notifications and emails and texts and the weather and traffic and bank accounts and all the rest. Some of us check our calendars over and over again because we live in a world that honestly never stops. But have you ever stopped to check your spiritual heart? Have you ever done that? In first John 2, John gives us a spiritual vital check. It's like a trip to the doctor, where even if you walk in with something obvious, say a busted arm, that the first thing they'll want to check is your blood pressure, your pulse, your vitals. Because even if things look okay on the outside, what really matters is what's happening on the inside. And spiritually, the same is true. You might look okay on the outside. You might attend church, show up to a small group, serve when asked. But how is your heart? Well, John says, we know. We've come to know him if we keep his commandments. The word know isn't just intellectual, it's relational. It's not about how much theology you've mastered or how many verses you've memorized. It's about closeness. It's about a relationship. And the evidence of knowing God isn't perfection. It's actually movement. It's direction. Are you moving towards Jesus or are you going through the motions? Now, some symptoms that our hearts might be out of rhythm include things like this, like a low grade anxiety that never leaves, or a disconnect between our private lives and our public faith. Or worship that feels mechanical. Or a Bible that collects dust instead of speaks life, a soul stuck in shame or guilt. Or if those things sound familiar, that doesn't mean you're failing. It simply means you're human. But like any health issue, it can't get better unless we're willing to face it. So today, take five minutes to ask the question, how's my heart? Not your schedule, not your success, not your relationships. But how is your heart? Ask God to show you if there's anything blocking your connection with him. And know this, when you bring your heart to Jesus, he doesn't scold you. He heals you. Let your first check in today be spiritual. Because if the heart isn't okay, nothing else will be. Have a great.
