[00:00:00] Foreign.
[00:00:10] Welcome to Friday's edition of the Weekday Podcast. This is Bobby. I'm super glad you're with us today. If you missed any part of the week, I would encourage you to go back and catch up on it either over the next couple of days. They build on each other. Super encouraging. All week long. Today I want to close with a question that's been sitting with me, and it's probably the most important question we've asked all week. And here's the question. It's sort of a contrast. Are you a kingdom consumer or a kingdom carrier? Are you a consumer or a carrier? Now, let me just sit with that for a minute. Not in judgment, just out of curiosity, because here's what I mean.
[00:00:42] It's kind of popular in our culture to have a version of following Jesus where you get all of the benefits and none of the responsibility. And here's what I mean. You can come to church, you could absorb the teaching, you could maybe serve in a ministry or two, but you never actually think of yourself as somebody the world around you needs.
[00:00:59] In other words, you receive from the kingdom, but you never think about the fact that you could carry it everywhere you go. And I get it. Like using that phrase, a carrier. That sounds like pressure, right? It sounds like you need to have your life together enough to represent something. But here's the thing. When Jesus assigns this in Matthew 5, he doesn't say it to people who had it together. He assigned it to fishermen, to tax collectors, to people who are going to fail him in some of the most public ways possible. And still he looked them in the eyes. And in Matthew 5, 13, and 14, he says, you are the salt of the earth. You are the light of the world. Not a job listing. It's a declaration. It's an identity. It's present tense, that there's no conditions attached. Then he told them what it was for.
[00:01:43] You've been relocated. You've been transferred out of darkness into the kingdom of his son. You've been renamed. You are salt. You are light. And that's already permanently true about you. And now you've been released. Let your light shine so that people see your good works and. And give glory to your Father in heaven. The whole thing builds on this. You weren't brought into the kingdom just to enjoy it. You were brought into the kingdom to carry it. And here's what I want you to think about today.
[00:02:11] What's at stake isn't abstract.
[00:02:13] Somewhere right now, in your neighborhood, in your office, in your family, somebody is sitting in the dark right now. And the thing they need, God's already placed it in you. Salt that never seasons anything. Light that never reaches a dark room. At some point, that stops being a tragedy about darkness is. And it starts being a question about the lamp.
[00:02:34] Now you don't have to become something new. You don't have to clean up more or get stronger or wait for a better season. You already have been relocated. You've already been renamed. All that's left is to stop covering what God's already put in you and let it do what it's designed to do. So here's one thing. This week, pick a person, show up for them. Not with a perfect plan, just with the light that's already in you. One conversation, one act of kindness, one moment where you choose to be a carrier instead of a consumer. You don't just belong to the kingdom, the kingdom belongs to you and expects something from you. Go and be salt. Go and be light. The world I believe around you is waiting. You don't just belong to the kingdom, the kingdom belongs to you. And it expects something for you. Now go. Be the light. Be the salt today. Have a great day. We'll see you back here soon.
