Well, today In Daniel, chapter 2, verse 19, it says the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. Then Daniel blessed the God of Heaven.
[00:00:27] Daniel, bless the God of heaven. Now We've got this 10 pound dog named Ollie, and I should say he's a boss dog. And he has zero concept of a vet appointment until the moment we're already in the car. He doesn't know it's coming. He doesn't know. Laura and I have been talking about it for weeks, quietly worried, already praying about it. If I'm honest, he's just napping, he's fully at peace, his tail's wagging at breakfast because where he sits, nothing is wrong yet.
[00:00:52] But it's already real to us. We've already made the call, we've moved the schedule, we started preparing before he has the faintest idea anything is happening at all. Now I get it. That's not a perfect picture of God, but it is the closest one I've got because it points to something that's true in Daniel, chapter two, after Daniel and his friends pray for mercy about the king's impossible demand. Verse 19 says the mystery was revealed to Daniel in a night vision. Look at what happens next. Daniel doesn't say God showed up just in time. He doesn't say, I'm so relieved God finally came through. He says, you have given me wisdom and power. Past tense, already done, already true.
[00:01:31] And here's the theological difference that changed how I read this whole thing. God didn't respond to the crisis. Instead, God was already in it. The word that's translated revealed carries this idea of something being uncovered that was already there, not created in the moment, not conjured up on demand, already there, already working.
[00:01:50] Daniel didn't pray and activate God. Daniel prayed and he connected to what God was already doing. Now a lot of us live as though God is standing at a distance that he's waiting to be called in, like some divine emergency responder that you have to dial and describe your situation to before he gets dispatched. But that's not the God of Daniel 2 that God knew about Nebuchadnezzar's dream before Nebuchadnezzar even dreamed it. He was working in the crisis before Daniel even heard about it.
[00:02:18] Your prayer doesn't activate God. Your prayer connects you to what he's already doing. If you're carrying something right now, that hasn't changed no matter how long you've prayed about it. I just want to push back on a lie that's easy to believe. The lie is that silence means absence, that if God were really there, something would be shifted by now.
[00:02:38] But Daniel was still in the room before the answer came. The mystery hadn't been solved yet. The execution order was still on the books and God was already working unseen underneath it all. He was there before you arrived at the hard thing, before the diagnosis, before the phone call, before the thing that's keeping you up right now, not eventually already.
[00:02:58] God does not respond to your crisis. He was already in it, working before you even knew to ask. Think about that today as you walk through this season together. Have a great day.
