[00:00:13] Well, hey, friends, welcome back to another edition of the weekday podcast. This is Bobby. I'm so grateful you're with us today. Hey, I just want to say, if there's anything I can join you in praying for today, drop me an email@bobby sugarhillchurch.com bobby sugarhillchurch.com I'd be honored to join you in praying today. Well, today on the podcast, there's this one big idea I want to walk away with today. Your injury is not your identity. Your injury is not your identity. Your brokenness, it may be part of your story, but it does not get the final word. We thought about lately, this guy named Mephibosheth. And the Bible says in 2nd Samuel 4, verse 4, that when he was 5, he fell and became lame.
[00:00:53] Now we live in a world that labels people by their scars. Once you've been through something hard, like a divorce or a failure or a moral misstep, it becomes part of your name. It become part of your brand. It's like wearing a badge you didn't ask for, but you can't take it off. And that's similar to this young guy. When he fell when he was five, he was dropped as a child. It wasn't his fault. And yet it defined how the world saw him. More than that, it defined how he saw himself. So later in the story, he calls himself a dead dog. That is not just low self esteem. That's shame. But notice this when you Fast forward to 2 Samuel 9, David never once calls him by that label.
[00:01:35] David doesn't comment on his disability, his fear, or his unworthiness. Instead, David restores him. David honors him, and David welcomes him. And I want to say to you today that God does the same with us. Your limp may be visible, your past may be known, but your identity, it is not determined by what broke you. Your identity is declared by the one who who healed you.
[00:02:00] You're not what you've been through. You're not your diagnosis. You're not your addiction. You are not your divorce. You are not your bankruptcy. You are not your lowest moment. Instead, you are loved. You're redeemed. You are renamed by God. And so I just want to say, let the world keep its labels. God has already given you a brand new name. And the name he's given you as child of the king. Your injury, it may explain you, but it does not define you. Shame, it caused you by your past, but Grace calls you by your new name. Have a great day. We'll see you back here soon.
