[00:00:22] Speaker B: Hi, everybody. Pastor Chuck Allen here with another weekday podcast where I want to take us to Matthew's gospel in chapter 5 and verse 20. The text says, for I tell you the that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. Now, God had given his people a lot of commandments and the law, which, if obeyed, would create a just and compassionate society. He didn't give the law simply to burden his folks with a plethora of rules. At the very heart of the law were two commands. To love the Lord with all their hearts and to love their fellow man as they love themselves. Now, if they obeyed those two commands, all of the rest would actually fall in line. The Pharisees and the scribes, however, they lost sight of that and focused on a legalistic adherence to the law. And this inevitably morphed into a loveless outward show done for the benefit of onlookers. Now, we see that some today where it's like, if you believe like me, you'll do like I do, or you'll do like they do, or you'll do like somebody says you should do. I mean, we see all kinds of legalistic adherence to the law today, and oftentimes it's done for the benefit of onlookers. Worse yet, they added multitudes of their own rules, hundreds and hundreds of regulations and traditions, and demanded that people obeyed those as well. But the law was impossible to keep. Perfectly. I mean, totally impossible. In fact, Jesus was the only one who obeyed God in all things. And if you accept his atoning death on the cross, you get to partake in his righteousness. You know, if the world is counting on my righteousness or yours today, I think the world might be in trouble. But the fact is we get to borrow and partake of Christ's righteousness. Lord Jesus, would you, knowing you were the only one who's ever truly been righteous, help us to learn to trust in your righteousness, not our own. Because only you can save us. And only you can save the world. Today, my friend, grab hold of true righteousness, the righteousness of Christ in Christ alone. God bless you. Thanks so much for joining me on another weekday podcast.
