[00:00:22] Speaker B: Well, welcome back to another edition of the Weekday Podcast. As always, we're so glad you're here today. And if you don't mind, would you consider sharing this on social media with a friend? Today, you'd to share love, you can simply post the link to weekdaypodcast.com, that's weekdaypodcast.com today I want to ask the question, what's the point of your spiritual gift? Now, growing up, I used to give my grandparents a really hard time because sometimes they'd give me gifts that as a kid, I didn't see the point. No kid really wants underwear and socks. What's the point? Well, sometimes as believers, when God gives us a gift, we miss the point. Sometimes we think the point is for us to use the gift for ourselves. But Ephesians 4, verse 12 Paul says the reason why God gave us the spiritual gift is for the equipping of the saints, for the work of the service, to the building up of the body of Christ. In other words, when we have a gift, we're meant to use it within the church to build up the church to serve other people. In other words, your gift is meant to be used in the body for other people. And when you do that, you're extending the throne of God around the world. And so today I want you to think about, what is that gift? What is that gift that God has given you? I've heard this illustration and I've used it my own self of how do you know what your gift is? Imagine that I was walking into the room with a tray full of cupcakes, and as I'm carrying that tray into the room, suddenly some of the cupcakes start falling off. What you do next might determine what your gift is. For instance, if you start seeing the cupcakes fall off the tray, you might say, you idiot, I saw that coming. How could you not see that? If that's you, you might have the gift of prophecy.
For some of you, you might say, let me help you clean it up. Here's a napkin. Here's Let me clean that up, the mess. If that's you, you might have the gift of service. Some of you might be the kind of person that says, man, I've researched how to carry cupcakes There's a better way. One, two, three. If that's you, you might have the gift of teaching. Some of you might say, I feel for you. That's happened to me. Watch this and you start dropping cupcakes yourself. That's you. You might have the gift of encouragement. Some of you might say, hey, take my cupcake. I've got extra cupcakes. I brought some for everybody. If that's you, you might have the gift of giving.
For some of you, you'll say, we'll get this cleaned up. I've got a vision of what a clean cupcake tray looks like. If that's you, maybe you've got the gift of leadership. Others of you might be like, man, when I saw that cupcake fall, my heart sank. I hurt for you. If that's you, you might have the gift of mercy. Here's the point. I know that's kind of silly, but when you think about it this way, these are gifts that God has given you, and the reason why he's given you is for them to be used in the church, to minister to other believers and to be used in the world. And quite honestly, many of us don't even know for sure what our gift is. And if we do, our gift is hidden or it's gone unused. And they're meant to be used in the body for building up. And so I want to encourage you today, the point of your gift is not for yourself, and the point of the gift is not for it to be hidden. The gift is to be used.
Serve. And so today, if you're not serving, find a place to serve. I think the best place to find to serve is through the local church. If you're here at Sugar Hill Church, there's so many ways to serve. If you're not plugged in here at Sugar Hill Church, if you're somewhere else, man, go to your local church and say, man, is there a place that I can serve? And we can help with that.
