[00:00:00] Foreign. [00:00:10] Welcome back to another edition of the weekday podcast. My name is Bobby. I'm so honored to be here next week. Pastor Chuck is back with another great week. But today I want to talk about the ordinary way through. Now, most of us are waiting for the moment that fixes everything. We're waiting for the one conversation that finally turns that relationship around, the one breakthrough that makes faith feel alive again, the one dramatic experience that puts the fire back in the engine. We keep waiting for the big thing, and meanwhile, we're honestly running on empty. Here's what Paul says about how people actually don't lose heart. In 2 Corinthians 4, verse 16, he says, Therefore, we do not lose heart. But though our outer man is decaying, our inner man is being renewed day by day. And that's it. Day by day. Not dramatically, not all at once, not in a single defining moment. One day at a time. The inner man is being renewed by a God who doesn't take days off. [00:01:03] Now, in the Greek here, that phrase being renewed day by day is present tense, past, a voice, meaning it's happening to you right now. You're not producing it. It's not some future promise. It's present. It's today. It's in the middle of the outer man wearing out. The inner man is still being worked on. [00:01:21] Now, I've got a great friend here at the church named Bruce. In the last several years, he's had prostate cancer, brain surgery, two strokes, and a pacemaker. And every single time he'd start to turn a corner, it would seem like something else would show up. And every time he'd hoped to get back to some normal, the normal kept moving. But somewhere along the way, normal stopped being the goal. [00:01:41] Every day, Bruce is walking and talking to Jesus. Every year, he's still leading men to Montana to help them find their hearts again. And every time he gets the chance to talk about what God has been doing and all of it, he can't get through it without tears in his eyes. Now, not tears of despair, but tears of someone who has been so close to God in the hard place that the words just don't come out clean anymore. His prayer life didn't shrink in the hard seasons. It expanded. And that's not a personality trait. That's a daily choice made over and over in moments that nobody sees. The person you see in Bruce now, the depth, the warmth, the unshakable quality, it was built, and it was built one day at a time. You do not beat discouragement with willpower. Willpower is a tank that empties. You beat it with daily rhythm. Small, consistent inputs that keep the inner man fed while. While the outer man takes its hits. So here's the question. Is there a daily rhythm in your life right now that's feeding the inside, or have you been running on fumes? Maybe the step isn't a complicated one. Maybe it's just come back. You do not beat discouragement with willpower. You beat it with a daily rhythm. Have a great day, Sam.
