[00:00:10] But there's a Facebook group out there that's all about people that live on Lake Lanier. And I saw a post about a person that was resetting a post on his dock out on Lake Lanier. And being a man, obviously he skipped the level. He didn't even own one, as far as I could tell from the story. He just stood back, squinted and at it like he was appraising fine art. And he said, yeah, that's plum. Well, it wasn't plum. And for season, you couldn't tell. It leaned maybe half a degree a month, which is nothing. Which is exactly the problem, because half a degree a month for two years is a dock that quietly starts bowing to whoever steps onto it. And so, as the post goes, one Sunday, his neighbor's teenage son comes sprinting down the dock to cannonball off the end. He hits the tilt at full speed. He executes the single most graceful fully clothed belly flop that has ever been witnessed. He took a cooler, folding chairs, and somebody's phone down with them into 11ft of lake water. Now, nobody woke up one morning and decided, let's have a crooked dock. It drifted a half a degree at a time until decades of small, unnoticed leans added up to a real problem.
[00:01:20] Ephesians 4, verse 3 says, Being diligent to preserve the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace. That word diligent is the word you'd use for a soldier that's standing guard over a city gate. Not because there's a crisis that night, but because that's the job. Like every night, whether anything happens or not before, Paul asked the divided church to do a single thing. He stacks seven declarations on top of each other. Here's what he says. You're one body, one spirit, one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and father of all. That is not decoration. That's a creed. And most scholars believe Paul is quoting the actual words that this church spoke out loud on the day that they were baptized. And he's handing them back their own vows. A crowd agrees on a mood. A church agrees on a creed. Most of us make our biggest decisions. Who to marry, what job to take, how to handle a crisis. Standing on whatever's holding steady in the mom.
[00:02:20] If what's holding you steady is a feeling feelings change with your sleep schedule. If it's something true, whether you feel it or not, it holds. I know a good man who walked through a divorce he never saw coming and somewhere in that year without ever making a decision about it, he quietly stopped believing God was actually good. Nobody noticed because he kept coming, kept singing the songs. Two years later he told me, I don't know what I believe anymore. I just know how to act like I do.
[00:02:48] That's the cost of an unattended lean.
[00:02:51] So check your own post this week. Is there a truth that you used to be sure of that's quietly leaned a few degrees without you noticing? You don't have to fix it today, you just have to check it. A crowd agrees on a mood. A church agrees on a creed.
