[00:00:00] Speaker A: Foreign.
[00:00:10] Speaker B: Welcome back to another edition of the Weekday Podcast. I'm Bobby, and I'm so glad you're here today. Today we're going to talk about something that we all wrestle with, and it's distraction. And not just the oops, I got sidetracked guy. I mean, the soul level. Distraction. And here's what I want to call today's episode. Let's scroll and more soul. So let me ask you a question. How many times have you picked up your phone to check something real quick, and then 20 minutes later, you're watching a video of a raccoon using a water fountain? Is that just me? I don't think so. We live in a culture that's constantly calling for our attention. Endless notifications, new content, breaking news. And while none of those things are bad on their own, when we never pause, our souls start suffocating. Which is so interesting, because here's what Psalm 46:10 says. Be still and know that I am God. Now, that's not a suggestion. It's actually an invitation. To quiet the noise, to slow the scroll, to reconnect with the only voice that can truly fill your soul. So here's today's big idea. Silence is not empty. It's actually full of God. You were not designed to consume everything. You were created to commune with someone in your soul. It doesn't grow in the scroll.
[00:01:21] Speaker A: It.
[00:01:21] Speaker B: It grows in the still. So let me give you three simple ways to shift from distracted to grounded. Number one, start your day with God, not your phone. Before you check text, social media, email, check in with the Lord. Even if it's just two minutes while you're brushing your teeth, say, God, today is yours. Help me hear you more than anything else. It's a small change, but it actually has a big impact. So, number one, start your day with God, not your phone. Number two, take a. What I call a scroll break. Pick one moment. Today, maybe it's your lunch break, maybe it's morning coffee, post dinner and trade your feed for silence. No music, no screen. Just you and the Lord. Now, it might feel awkward at first, and that's okay. Stillness actually takes practice, but silence actually creates space. And God fills whatever space you give them. So, number one, start your day with God, not your phone. Number two, take a scroll break. And then number three, ask the soul. Check question. Here's the question. Is what I'm consuming feeding my spirit, or is it just filling my time? See, not everything online is bad, but not everything is building you up. If it's not feeding your soul. It's probably draining it now. You don't need to cancel the Internet. You don't need to throw away your phone, but you might need to put it down long enough to hear your own heartbeat again and maybe even to hear the voice of God. And so today maybe you want to pray this part of the prayer with me to say, Father, in the world full of noise, help me to hear you more clearly.
God, would you teach me to make space to be still even for a moment so that I can know you more deeply? God, would you restore the parts of me that's been drowned by distraction and fill me with peace? In the name of Jesus, amen. Well, I just want to say thanks again for being with us today. If this podcast stirred something in you, would you consider taking just five minutes of stillness today? Less scroll, more soul. And we'll see you back here soon for another edition at the podcast.
