[00:00:00] Foreign. [00:00:06] Welcome back to Thursday's edition of the weekday podcast, super grateful you're here. Imagine you're at the airport, you're at the gate, and they make the announcement something like, ladies and gentlemen, Flight 1142 to Charlotte has been delayed. [00:00:19] If you heard that announcement, you can feel the whole room tense up. One guy's already on the phone yelling at someone who has nothing to do with it. There's a lady muttering something at the screen. There's a kid lying face down on the carpet, which honestly is the most reasonable response in the room. And there's one person who's calm. Not a fake calm, but a real calm. They walk up to the counter and say, hey, I know it's not your fault. Rough day. And you watch the gate agent shoulders just drop. One person changed the temperature of the whole room. And that is peace with a purpose. On that first Easter night, Jesus walked into a locked room. He said, peace be with you. He showed his scars. Then he said it again. In verses 21 and 22, it says, so Jesus said to them, peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, I also send you. And when he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, receive the Holy Spirit. [00:01:11] So pay attention to that order. Peace and then a mission. The peace Jesus gives isn't a finish line. It's equipment. And the word breathed, it only shows up right here in the New Testament. But it's the same word used in the Greek translation of Genesis 2. When God breathed life into Adam. John is telling us this is a new creation moment. Jesus is breathing life into a room that is full of dead hope. [00:01:38] Here's what I don't want you to miss. When does Jesus send them? Not after their fear is gone. Not after they've got it all together. The doors are still locked. They're still nervous. And he breathes his peace on them anyway and says, I am sending you now. Maybe you're thinking, I don't have enough peace to give away. And I get that they didn't either. You don't have it to, you know, figure it out ahead of time. To carry peace, you just have to receive it. Pastor Chuck says one regulated parent can steady a home, and one study leader can calm a team. And in a prayer at the end of the first chapter of his book, he asked God not to let him hoard his peace when he finds it again. Here's the line I want you to hold on to today. [00:02:22] Peace that stays in the room isn't finished yet. Peace that stays in the room is not finished yet. So. So you get to lower the temperature. The question today is which room in your life needs the temperature lowered. Your kitchen, your office, your marriage, that group text. Here's the practice tonight. Before you walk into your house, take one breath in the driveway, just one, and pray. Jesus, breathe on me. Help me bring your peace into this room. Not just my stress. Then go. Be the calm one. Not perfect. Just present. Ask somebody how they're really doing. Let somebody else be right. Speak a little slower. You might be surprised how many shoulders drop. Peace that stays in the room. It isn't finished yet. We're talking about the one disciple who wasn't in the room that night. Tomorrow. History gave him a nickname he's never been able to shake. But I think we've had him wrong for 2,000 years. And what Jesus did for him might be exactly what you need if you've been doubting lately. So join us tomorrow for another edition of the weekday podcast. Have a great day.
