It's great to have you here. If you find these helpful, please consider sharing them on social media. The simplest way to do that is just to put the link out there for weekdaypodcast.com Our hope is to offer encouragement to as many as many people as possible. Well, one of the things that happens in life if we're not careful is we find ourselves drifting. Now, oftentimes in the moment, we don't see it happening because it's gradual, it's underneath the surface. But it's not uncommon for people to wake up a week later, a month later, years later, and wonder, how did I get here? And that happens physically. If you've ever been at sea in a boat, that happens when you're swimming, if you're not careful and you get caught in a riptide. But honestly, it happens spiritually. It happens so much that a bulk of the New Testament letters are actually written to believers that are part of churches. And they often talk about this idea of drifting in Hebrews 2. The writer of Hebrews says this, for this reason we must pay much closer attention to what we've heard. So he's writing to people that have heard about Jesus, that put their faith in Jesus, and then he goes on to say, pay attention to it. And I love this last phrase, so that we do not drift away from it. And so that's true. A lot of us have drifted. And it's not a one time thing. It happens multiple times in our life. And so what I want to do is I want to give you three simple anchors. Now, they're simple for me to say. They're a little bit harder to actually live out. And the first anchor is to decide on a fixed direction. When we're at sea in life, we need to know where we're going, because the truth is you can't go two directions at once. And honestly, that's the reason why drifting happens. Oftentimes people don't start out to drift. They just become indifferent to the things of God. They begin to neglect the spiritual disciplines in their life. And over time, it leads to disobedience. And the consequence is they feel a million miles away from God. And so I would encourage you to Decide on a fixed direction. Where are you going? The second anchor is this, that once we know where we're going, we need to develop foundational disciplines in our life. The thing that closes the gap between where we are today and where we want to be are the disciplines, the things that we repeatedly do. Intentions are great, but what's even a greater indicator of who we're going to become are the things that we do. So we need disciplines like the Word of God in our life and biblical community in our life. We need people around us. And then the third anchor is this. We need to demonstrate our faithful devotion. One of the ways that you demonstrate that you're not drifting is how you stay committed for the long haul. In Hebrews 6, verse 19, the writer says, this hope we have as an anchor of the soul. Now, when you're anchored, it doesn't mean that life is easy, but what it does mean is you've got a brand new confidence. Your confidence is in the anchor, in our case, Christ Jesus himself. There's confirmation. In other words, you see God at work in our life. You see steadiness, spiritual steadiness in our life. And ultimately, in the middle of the bustling world and the noisy world around us, there's this inner sense of calm. And so today I want to encourage you, be anchored. Be anchored. It's like having that strong, steady base in your life that keeps you stable no matter how rough the seas of life get. Don't drift. Have a great day. We'll see you back here soon. [00:03:46] Speaker A: Thanks so much for joining us today for the weekday podcast. Our prayer is that the encouragement you just heard would help you live more like Jesus today.
